Cure for shortness?

I know this is a bit behind as far as when it actually happened, but I read about docters prescribing human growth hormone as a cure for children who, for no specific medical reason, happen to be likely to grow up shorter than average. (under 5'0 for girls, or under 5'3 for boys, IIRC) I personally find this a bit disturbing, since it's not like being short should be considered an undesirable trait. Of course, my perspective might be a bit skewed, bing 6'5, so I wanted to know what others thought.
